On April 18th students, including several from Griffith, left the classroom to attend a Pro-Palestine Protest in King George Square.

The protest provided a stage for leaders of the movement to give passionate speeches and a chance to lobby the Albanese Government to condemn the genocide happening in Gaza.

Islam (Izzy) Qraiqe addresses protestors.

In a speech Griffith Palestinian Student, Islam Qraiqe, recounted experiences of visiting family in Palestine in 2021 and how she and her family had to shelter from Israel attacks. In a brief comment she said she wished Griffith University was more open about discussing Palestinian struggles the same way they speak about Indigenous peoples struggles.

The next student protest will be held on May 2 in King George Square.

Nice Article. Very informative. I think the ending is a bit abrupt. Maybe adding some information on when the next protest may be or some other resources such as websites/charities that people can visit to find out more information on this topic. Or maybe try and add some context on this issue. Just to give the audience an idea on why we should be concerned with issues like this. – Jada

I would clean up the intro a little bit and I think adding information on why its important that people protest is vital – look at Jada’s point. Consider interviewing someone from the protest . Danica, one of our art correspondent, was at the protest. Doing this will add more depth and impact. – Sophia Thomas 🙂
